A central part of our work has been the translation of the Bible into the Bayash language. The New Testament has been completed in draft form and is now in the process of checking and editing as well as conforming to New Testament Greek. The Bayash language is a dialect of an old archaic Romanian tongue that has developed over the last 400 years. Today's Bayash has three major dialects, all of which are understood when spoken by each group across the region. Our first objective is to translate into a standard Bayash dialect that is understood in Croatia and Serbia. As you will see in the Philosphy of Translation section we are following a "Thought for Thought" translation style.Often this style of translation is adopted where the vocabulary base of a language is limited. An example of this in Bayash is that there are sometimes over ten words in English that are translated by one word in Bayash.
